Produced during a 6 months residency at the Institute for Provocation in Beijing in 2019, ‘Yiwu’ is a hypnotic journey through Yiwu commodity city, the world’s biggest wholesale market.

The 2 hour long film is edited as an endless 360° slow panning of 40 stalls seamlessly merging into one another. Colourful product details are slowly revealed in a seducing manner, creating an intimate portrait of mass produced items in a never ending swirl of textures.

The film invites viewers to enter a gentle dream state. It has been described as: an “archeological portrait of our collective memory”, “sour candy” and “creates shame by confronting one to the force of possession”.

The film doesn’t take a judgmental stance. It portrays the complex feelings of attraction/repulsion to toxic materials that we are inexplicably drawn to, even it lead us to our dismise.
