Simon Wald-Lasowski makes colorful, fun, twisted work by use of bricolage, word play and ‘cliché bending’. Lighthearted at first sight, his images often reveal a certain depth on second inspection. His approach is always very personal, which blur the boundaries between autonomous and commissioned work.

2013

Once in a while I feel the need to work on location. Certain subjects would just become too simplified illustrated in a studio setting.

Therefore when asked to make images for an article about hoarders, I decided to try to create a staged photo on location rather than recreating chaos artificially.

Being somehow a collector myself I had a good click with the subject of the shoot. We spend many hours talking. Eventually I convinced her that she should hide under her 'trash', as if being submerged by her possessions.
