Carmen in the Kaasfabriek
(Carmen in the Cheese Factory) is a twist
on the famous opera by Bizet.
Situated in a cheese factory, this
opera/flamenco/theatre piece evolves around the life of early Spanish
immigrants in the Netherlands.
I was very happy with this simple and surprising combination of two archetypal objects: the Spanish castanets and Dutch cheese knife, forming a smiling but menacing face.
Unfortunately,
this poster was rejected by the client. They thought it was too
conceptual, not dynamic enough, and would not communicate to their
targeted audience.
Here is the poster that went to print... Needless to say that I didn't make it!
